Herbalife Health Poll: 9 in 10 Filipinos ”highly concerned” about the potential diseases that an unhealthy lifestyle can cause

Herbalife Health Poll: 9 in 10 Filipinos ”highly concerned” about the potential diseases that an unhealthy lifestyle can cause

Herbalife HEalth Poll (1)

MANILA, Philippines – Nine in 10 Filipino consumers surveyed by global nutrition company Herbalife are “highly concerned” about the potential diseases that an unhealthy lifestyle can cause them, with the same number believing that simple lifestyle changes can help improve their overall well-being.

A good number of the respondents expressed willingness to adopt a healthy lifestyle; 79 percent said that they would cut down on unhealthy foods, 78 percent expressed their willingness to exercise more regularly, and 72 percent said they would make better nutrition choices.

“We welcome the results of the survey. It gives an understanding of Filipinos becoming even more health concious and self-aware that they need to make some lifestyle changes to improve their overall well-being. It also gives Herbalife an idea where we are needed, because as the survey revealed only four out of 10 would spend 10 to 30 minutes a day to make simple lifestyle changes,” said Rosalio Valenzuela, Herbalife Philippines General Manager.

The respondents, however, cited the following as the top obstacles to achieving a healthy lifestyle: lack of time for exercise (75 percent), lack of time to make proper nutrition choices (64 percent), and high cost of healthy food (62 percent).

The same health poll likewise showed that the top three aging-related concerns in the country were heart, brain, and eye health.

Better knowledge and understanding

“The findings from the Herbalife survey clearly show that the majority of people in Asia Pacific that we questioned believe in the value of good nutrition and exercise as contributing to their overall well-being. We aim to play a greater role in providing practical tips and information to people to help them understand that the journey to a healthier, more active lifestyle is not difficult to achieve. With as little as 10 minutes a day, consumers can take positive steps to improve their nutrition and be more active, which will improve their overall well-being,” said William M. Rahn, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Herbalife Asia Pacific.

Herbalife conducted the survey in September 2015 in the lead-up to its Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour. It surveyed 1,200 respondents across six countries, including the Philippines, on perceptions towards their health and current lifestyle. Respondents from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand were likewise included in the survey.

Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour

Now on its fourth year, the Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour aims to deepen people’s practical understanding of the various aspects of living a healthy active lifestyle. Its previous tours in the past three years saw close to 60,000 participants across the region.

This year’s Wellness Tour will feature five members of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) visiting 14 markets and 21 cities across the Asia-Pacific in the month of October. They will share their expert views on how people can make use of the little time they have to make simple lifestyle changes that will enhance their well-being.

Herbalife’s NAB experts will likewise share their views on a wide range of health-related topics, including weight management, brain health and aging; heart health; immunology; and skin care at the medical symposia being held in Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnamn.

The Herbalife NAB experts participating in this year’s Wellness Tour include Dr. David Heber, who incidentally will be coming to Manila, is a leading expert in the field of nutrition and named as one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” by Thomson Reuters in 2014 and considered one of “The Best Doctors in America”; Dr. Lou Ignarro, a Nobel laureate in Physiology or Medicine in 1998 for his discovery of nitric oxide’s health benefits; Dr. Gary Small, a specialist in brain health and aging who has authored over 500 scientific works and has received numerous awards and honors, including the “Senior Investigator Award” from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry; Dr. Marion Fltechner-Mors, a health nutrition specialist who is currently heading the nutrition and obesity research group at Ulm University, Germany; and Dr. Wang Jae Lee, a physician and academic specializing in immunology and a professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine.

Dr. Heber, who is the founding Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles, will be conducting a symposium for free to Filipino medical practitioners on October 23, 9am, at the Manila Hotel. The symposium will gather a group of 100 doctors, nurses, physical therapists and medical practitioners. The title of the symposium is “Obesity: More Than Just Being Overweight and Nutrition Forecast for 2020.” Seminars of Dr. Heber are recognized by US hospitals as part of Continuing Education Studies, which are often required of applicants. The following day, Oct. 24, Dr. Heber will be holding seminars for thousands of Herbalife Independent Members in the same hotel.

This is the first time Dr. Heber, who is also the Chairman of the NAB and the Herbalife Nutrition Institute, to conduct a seminar in Manila since the company was founded in the Philippines 22 years ago.

Here is a link for reference http://products.herbalife.com.ph/

As I got older, as a girl who didn’t really cared what she looks like while I was young, then I realized its not just the outside but also the inside, the importance of having a strong and healthy system. You are what you eat and with proper diet, active lifestyle and supplements as support, it gives you that boost of confidence that you achieve greater heights.

My focus is on weight loss, I’ve been hitting the gym for 5 years, my weight has been playing because I was a student (so I eat, when Im stressed and have no time to go to the gym – well for others). Now I’m on track to achieve my dream body again, its difficult, YES. Im not depriving myself to eat and killing myself in the gym, okay. Its all about balance, think of yourself as a cell, you need nutrients for it to work and metabolize, you get the point? So just keep in mind having to take care yourself is an investment that is worth it. TRUST ME.10170690_10207990710394491_1676434078363912913_n

A little bit about Geeking Tom:

Founded on July 2013, a group of obsessive nerds that love cool shirts based on pop-culture decided to make their own brand and show off their love for all things geek – Geeking Tom was born. Our tagline is, “Level-up your t-shirt game” because the goal is to stop t-shirt mediocrity and promote originality.

Geeking Tom is all about being proud and showing off things that (we) geeks love – comics, games, fandoms and more – through awesome shirts. Our shirts are 100% cotton, thick and durable, yet comfortable to wear. The designs are screen-printed to ensure the best quality for every shirt printed. Currently, Geeking Tom shirts are available online and through our retail partners Dyce and Dyne (Pasig), and Parafreaq (San Juan).

What sets us apart from other geek apparel is that all our designs are original and you won’t find them anywhere else. We believe in the talent of Filipino graphic artists and their works deserve to be seen by all.

“ Since we take pride on being original, we came up with the concept to hold a shirt designing contest for the entire month of October called, “Geeking Tom Shirt Wars” “

Wisdom : “The Intern” Movie

The_Intern_Poster-512x512

“Starting a new job can be a difficult challenge, especially if you’re already retired. Looking to get back into the game, 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) seizes the opportunity to become a senior intern at an online fashion site. Ben soon becomes popular with his younger co-workers, including Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), the boss and founder of the company. Whittaker’s charm, wisdom and sense of humor help him develop a special bond and growing friendship with Jules” – IMDB

To be honest, the reason why I got interested with the movie, it involves the world about fashion, and so I thought – It was more than that. I’ve watched Anne Hathaway from the “Devil’s wears Prada” and in this movie she never failed to give a great performance. The movie was Hilarious! (Especially the scene where they have to crash into somebody’s house – You better watch the movie and you’ll crack up with that scene)  and yet heartwarming. I give it a 4/5.

I’ve listed things what I learn from the movie (Nothing beats writing a blog post with pizza paired with a Stella Artois beer  – I agree with Jules)

1.The movie tag line – Experience Never gets old.

With the life lessons you’ve earned thru the years, it definitely comes in handy 🙂

2. Not the exact line from the movie, According “Ben Whittaker” played by Robert De Niro. The reason why men carry a hanky, its because to wipe off women’s tears when we cry – Awwe.

We need to bring back Chivalry, ladies. and this is a good tip for my guy friends (Alam niyo na).

Well my dad carries a hanky all the time,  all the while I thought, it was just for hygienic purposes and yet there is a reason behind it.

3. Age doesn’t matter.

Look at Jules played by Anne Hathaway, a year and half ago , she started the business at  home, it boomed into a company then now she has 220 employees that work for her. Then there comes a trouble for the company, where they’ve questioned Jules as the CEO and needed someone with way more experience. Despite that, she decided that she will continue with what she started and she will be running the company as the CEO.

Ben despite his age who should  just  be relaxing and enjoying life. Yet he retired, then he just had that feeling that he wanted to be needed. Keep his brain and body on the go. The effort for him to keep up with the technology and yet he reminds us of the ropes of the good old days. It is  refreshing since technology took over. Very admiring, and his character was well loved by everyone in this film- effortless.

Ben is a widower , yet he was able to meet someone in the character of Fiona. (My grandmother who is a widow, has a boyfriend and I don’t mind at all, actually talo niya pa ako eh) – I understand that people have needs and to go on life with someone. People deserve the love they need 🙂

The scene when Jules helped Ben on how Facebook goes, is so cute to watch 🙂

I for one, see myself as I get old when my future kids have a life na! , doing the same thing, maybe be a doctor or lawyer or get finally get into the Fashion Industry,  just to keep me busy.

4. Major #GirlBoss goals

From the clothes to Anne’s sassy and cool attitude as a boss, how she runs her company and the value of her employees. I love the interior of her office 😀

5. #MommyGoals

Meet Jules’  little “clone”, Paige. You’ll love her. and her sweet stay at home hubby, Matt, who gave up his career to give way to Jules.

In a Filipino Traditional Society it has always been the Paternal or the father, who earns and works for the family. Nowadays, Stay at home dads’ is becoming a trend and women dominating the professional field. I don’t see anything bad with it. It depends on how it works for a family.

I’m not referring to Jules’ life as perfect yet she goes thru things.  Okay, Jules’ sweet husband, Matt, cheated on her with a mommy from Paige’ s school. Jules knew for 18 days when she got a sneak peek on her husband’s phone.

What I learn from my Mom as a wife, Its not an easy job because at the end of the day, You’re main reason is always your children. As a wife you have obligations, My mom would say “Kailangan magpa ganda para sa asawa, and mag provide ng needs sa husband mo kasi obligasyon mo iyon, kasi ang love pwede mawala”. My mom would add “If gusto i-save ang marriage gawa pa ng isa pang anak” HAHA. My mom.

Jules forgave Matt and they decided to work on it. Jules thought of hiring a CEO in place of her in order to save her family.

Now I questioned the concept of faith fullness and loyalty, today.

5. Nowadays, we we rely too much on technology.

Does anybody forgot the concept of Talking to someone personally? Thanks Ben- The scene where Adam DeVine, asked Ben for dating tips.

6. New doesn’t always mean BETTER.

Sometimes the classic – still the best. Yet technology today is accessible and easy, It is sometimes good to relive the past from dating traditions to life hacks, nothing beats the classic. How did people survive before? People just tend to forget because nowadays people get to step out from the norm which is also a good thing. I am grateful that I was born on the 1900s, I had a fun and weird childhood before technology took over.

Ben carries a briefcase to work, Its refreshing!  where do you see people carry classic leather briefcase nowadays. My dad still owns a lot (all still in good shape, because of the good quality brand)  and he handed one to me to keep STUFF hihi #LifeHacks

PSID Breaks The Limitation of Space

PSID Breaks The Limitation of Space: Ronac Lifestyle Center, Paseo de Magallanes |  October 3-31, 2015

12036967_10207851042462880_1073201426832247643_n

Condominiums sprouting all over metro manila, that is the urban calling lifestyle but haven’t you notice condo units being sold are becoming smaller in sizes.

Its all about maximizing the space, picking and matching what furniture that fit.  Dealing with these stuff is a complete headache, personally I have to deal with a 60 sqm condo my parents purchased. Apparently we are on a strict budget so I stepped up and did my own personal touch on the condo and met half way with my dad upon buying the furniture especially (My dad has his points).

I could say I learned the value of “Taking note of measurements”, That’s why I carry a measuring tape around when I visit Ace hardware and SB Furniture. I’m impressed with what I’ve done but it is a whole lot of work and I think I don’t  I’m not cut out for Interior designing (I am a nursing grad but I love styling and putting things together – I Love to be challenged too ) but I got thumbs up from my friends on my instagram posts.

Anyways, it is with great AWE and I am highly impress on how the Student’s of  The Philippine School of Interior Design were able to break the space and be able to put together a design for a 24 sqm condo unit.

As explained they were set into groups,  their clients and concepts are randomly chosen. So that was a big challenge on their parts. Some of the visuals are either sponsored by their partner brands and they’ve done some D-I-Y – the students’ did  themselves (impressive right?). I envy such talent and pursuing such visions. 24 Archetypes and 24 units to be showcased by the graduating batch.

That whole element of design and conceptualizing takes a bunch of skills and talent. Interior design is not an “easy-peasy” thing that some people think about. I assumed there are theories behind every design. There are a lot of consideration like the pipe line, electrical wiring, space and such.

Well I had fun mingling with the students of PSID and got to talk to them, My tour was a fast phase (because Heneral Luna can’t wait, my bad I should have booked another date, because I was really having a fun time). I was able to see every unit on each floor (3 floors actually), I was able to ask some questions and had some takes on the designs.

And observed mostly the Washroom situation, I adore the tile works and the considerations on putting up the design (I had my share of experiences dealing with the whole bathroom thing with my previous and current condo)

bgg

(a) “The Artist’s” was my fave among all the washrooms (I can’t believe they were able to consume such space)

(b) Featuring the Greco Roman Booth with Kohler Cleo Bathtub (The tub <3 )

and the washroom of the (c) “Anime Aficionado” and the wall tiles of  (d) The wall collectors.

What can you say? #BathroomGoals

and when it comes to the washroom floor tiles, my fave was  “The travel team” (very Mediterranean – close to my heart). – I wasn’t able to take a photo, maybe was too fascinated 🙁

Designs for Redefining Spatial Limitations

Millennials today, are setting trends across all markets. In the realm of real estate, millennials’ needs and preferences are even prompting developers to build more vertical housing units that feature micro-condos.

To show just how versatile a micro-condo space can be, despite its size, the Philippine School of Interior Design’s graduating batch of 2015 tackles its personalization with STUDIO24, an exhibit showcasing innovative design solutions that not only maximize the area but also cater to the taste of 24 different dweller archetypes.

Small Space Can Mean Big Potential

According to a study by Lamudi, 42% of the condo units for sale have a floor plan of 50sqm. or less. While the floor sizes decrease, the number of units in a building increases. Therefore, more tenants are accommodated. In exchange of proximity to lifestyle conveniences and the chance to actively socialize, first-time homeowners are choosing micro-condos over house and lots in the suburbs.

Often, small condos carry the stigma of being cramped and limited. However, in the right hands micro-condos can be personalized into a dream abode.  With micro-condos becoming the norm, adapting one’s style to a small space is more of an opportunity than a challenge. As long as the space is customized to fit the style and needs of the homeowner, the small size is of very little consequence.

A Legacy of Thinking outside the Box

For the past 48 years, The Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID), has nurtured and taught countless interior designers who continue to make their mark here and abroad. In doing so, PSID fostered a legacy of taking unassuming spaces and turning them into the ideal nests. STUDIO24 utilizes twenty-four standard 24sqm. spaces decked out in 24 popular trends inspired by unique personality archetypes. Each of the 24 styles fall under 3 main categories.

Ladies’ Lairs evoke the colorful activities and interests of today’s independent women. The styles under it include; The Pastry Chef, The Socialite, The Romantic Writer, The Artist, The Classy Dame, The Bachelorette, The Shy Violet, and The Comic Geek.

The exhibit runs from October 3-31 at Ronac Lifestyle Center along Paseo de Magallanes.

 Campaign Launched in 177 Countries

SINGAPORE (September 29, 2015) – Sony Pictures Television Networks launched a worldwide campaign across their channels in 177 countries, engaging viewers in environmental issues, it was announced today by Andy Kaplan, president, worldwide networks for Sony Pictures Television (SPT).  The effort, titled Picture This, will utilize the channels’ storytelling expertise to engage viewers around environmental issues important to each market. Picture This will then combine these local efforts into a worldwide voice to bring awareness to everyday efforts that can help protect our natural resources.

“With the reach of our global networks and the passion of our storytelling, our networks will both engage the community and energize people to action by picturing a better environment,” said Kaplan.  “Collectively we can make noise heard around the world on behalf of issues that are central to everyone’s well-being and do it in an entertaining way.”

In Asia, SPT Networks, which includes leading channels Animax, AXN, Gem, ONE and Sony Channel will present a three minute on air spot encouraging viewers to reduce the use of plastic bags in their daily lives. To communicate the message, SPT Networks enlisted the support of               “El Gamma Penumbra”, the mesmerizing shadow play group who won the first season of Asia’s Got Talent on AXN earlier this year.

“The over-use of plastic bags in territories across Asia is a growing concern given the negative impact it has on our land, waterways, marine life and oceans. Through our Picture This campaign, we want to remind viewers to think twice before using, and then quickly discarding, their plastic bags. Partnering with El Gamma Penumbra, who is known for their compelling environmental performances, was a natural choice and their inspiring storytelling for Picture This is sure to make a big difference,” said Hui Keng Ang, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia.
