I remember my high school days as a stroll around the campus, my non-filipino friends and neighbouring schools dig really into the sport (Football season is a big deal in oman, most gulf state countries do) also when I visited Europe – football is well praised as how Filipinos go crazy over basketball. To every shawarma place I go in Oman or a local coffee shop you’ll see a big screen dedicated to every football match. Literally Messi, Ronaldo and Al-Habsi advertisements everywhere you turn. I don’t have smooth football moves, I tried a couple of times in high school, My non-Filipino schoolmates made me try but I say it requires skill though it was fun (I’m not really competitive – you could steal the ball from me any second HAHA ) so I just prefer to watch them instead. The non-Filipinos in my school mostly play football and they encourage the Filipinos in our school to try.
Impossible Move Manila, an exciting football face-off spearheaded by Jamba Juice, aims to challenge this exact notion and inspire achievers to go beyond their own capabilities. “We want to show people that through hard work, dedication, and collaboration, the seemingly impossible can be done excellently,” said Sharon Fuentebella, Max’s Group Incorporated (MGI) Executive Vice President.
“Impossible Move Manila” seeks to encourage and motivate these young active achievers to continue pursuing their passions by being part of a community of like-minded people. “We want the young generation of Filipino achievers to continue nurturing their passions and chase after their own personal goals. And we are here to join them and push them to do just that,” shared Ms. Fuentebella.
“Impossible Move Manila” is the first of a series of sports activities that will dare participants to exceed what they think they are capable of. The activity begins with a short workshop at Jamba Juice in Bonifacio High Street—the brand’s flagship store in the Philippines—which will be led by standouts from the national football team, Mark McMahon and Charlie Sutcliffe.
Throughout the day, special Jamba Juice blends specially created by Mark and Charlie will also be served to ensure that the players have the necessary boost and fuel to up their game. At the end of the program, outstanding players will be awarded with exclusive prizes that include a year’s worth of Jamba Juice!
After the motivational pep talk from Coach Mark and Coach Charlie- whipping up his signature power up smoothie .Then it was time to hit the turf with the kids (participants) along with other coaches. Prior heading to the turf, The coaches already placed them into teams. From Jamba Juice BGC High Street we walked together as a group to the BGC Football Turf.
The coaches started off by jogging around the turf and doing basic warm-ups before getting in the turf. I’m glad I brought Jean with me to keep me company and relieved she has her own pair of spikes that we could both try to play football.
Got the chance to interview the cool Coach Mark McMahon, He was born here in the Philippines and mostly grew up in Scotland. We were able to chit chat with him during their break. As told, he had a hard time at first coping with the Philippine weather but I could see how well adjusted he is and his Tagalog is flawless. He had his share of experiences and I could say he is a really down-to-earth guy. He also has a big heart, I heard he has an advocacy at his hometown at Siargao- where he was born and also, he is an Ambassador of Hope as mentioned to me by Miss Liezl Jardo.
Coach Mark shared me a nice tip on how to prevent blisters while working out, Note: Apply Vaseline before putting on your socks. (If may budget, you can buy like anti blister-silicon-thingy for the shoes HAHA)
It was nice of Coach Mark to teach us basic football moves (The passing and dribble). And he encouraged us to take part of the #ImpossibleMove challenge they prepared for the kids. Apparently I wasn’t able to finish the workshop because I have to head back early to QC and it was my sister’s 18th birthday.
Coach Charlie, was really hands on with the workshop and training. You could see how passionate he is about the sport and the enthusiasm on his face. Too bad, I left early, I might have interviewed him with Coach Mark. I could see he was really busy, running here and there, I was kinda shy to approach him during the workshop but I was able to get a photo op with him and he asked us if we ever try football – There’s always a next time.
My admiration goes to the entire team who planned the event and also the other coaches who were there, KUDOS! Everyone was so approachable, there is that warm welcome and even the kids they were socially friendly too- they even scored us some tips on kicking and passing.
