Huawei Y9 Prime Phone Review (First Pop up selfie camera)

Hey everyone! It’s been awhile since I did a gadget review and I missed attending tech events. I have no idea if they mistaken krishgeek.com as a tech blog all these years which is exactly a Lifestyle blog. The word “geek” obvi gave it away. Last year, I was really weighing in on keeping the old name. Then I decided to just keep the namesake, stick with my core and try to evolve with it then let us see.

Anyways back to the phone which is why people bother reading this review. I got the chance to enjoy using the Huawei Y9 Prime for almost a month now. It is pretty impressive for an entry level and okay for a lifestyle/everyday phone. For just P12, 999, not bad. Huwaei’s goal for the Y9 Prime is to provide a quality everyday phone without needing to break the bank.

If in cased you missed it, during the pre selling. If you purchase the Huawei Y9 Prime, you get a free Bluetooth speaker which cost P1999 (Unit A20 PRO with rechargeable battery) . Such a steal?! I’ve received feedback from my instagram about “the ban’ on Huwaei units, good news it has been lifted. So no worries!

What’s special or what makes it different with the Huawei Y9 Prime? It’s the FIRST Huawei phone with a pop up selfie camera. For those concerned, it has been tested 100, 000 times and can withstand  15 kg weight with or without bending or breaking.

Personal Review:

Unboxing impressions

-The phone comes in Emerald green, sapphire blue and midnight black in 3D curve design and hologram-ish detail. I personally like the emerald green, the color is interesting and I seldom see colors like this on phones.

-The box includes a FREE “jelly”transparent phone case, charger and earphones. It also includes warranty card and quick start guide.

Camera

– Specs: Front camera: 16 MP
 Back camera: triple camera setting
* dedicated bokeh 2MP (f/2.4)
*  Main lens 16 MP (f/1.8)
* Ultra wide angle lens 8 MP (f/2.4)

-Camera mode(s): Photo, portrait, night, aperture, PRO, Slow mo, Panoroma, AR lens, light painting, HDR, time lapse, filter and stickers.

-The pop up selfie camera (mentioned above earlier) SHOTS appear flawless and sharp, if that’s an aesthetic you are going for. Taking selfies coming is like shooting a wide lens and if it makes you feel better- it makes the face slim. The pop up selfie camera doesn’t work in night and aperture mode. When you press the selfie button or slide to the feature that it is available that is when it pops up.

– The tricam is what I personally like, best for taking insta worthy photos either indoors or outdoors. The NIGHT mode,  impressed me. I was in a dark parking lot and the picture appeared brighter. Personal favorite modes, aperture (focus photos) and HDR/ PRO (wide lens and slr quality).

Video recording

-Just fair, android quality video. Tip: Best videos are taken under natural light. Sound quality is good.

Battery

-Specs: 4000 mAh large battery. Battery life is LONG LASTING even during gaming and while connected to the internet. Charging time gave a fair amount of time.

Social Media/ Applications

-You can download all applications on play store. And yes, facebook application is available *linking to ban issue*. Uploading is fast but resolution is “good” for android quality.

-Watching videos in HD and playing online games so far no lagging incident even while doing regular phone activities. The 6.59” FHD+ screen to touch panel ratio 91% is personally something that I am not used too, I am not used to big phone screen but definitely comfortable for binge watching and gaming especially.

-One interesting app, that was highlighted during the launch is the clone app which can send files/photos to android and Ios.
