Comfort + Good eats at the Frazzled Cook

On the busy lane of Tomas Morato lies Scout Gandia, a familiar route for me when I try to get to places I have to go. Since I have to go to events and my departure spot always ends up in Quezon City I have to be familiar with my turf. So I’ve seen The Frazzled Cook time to time but I’ve never been inside, I’ve seen it also as a familiar shooting spot for telerseryes and movies. I love the front door, its a big round door – reminds me of Lord of the rings. Its like a hint of New Zealand and Santorini vibe for me. (The place is just along Scout Gandia across PKDF)

I would like to apologize, If I don’t get to provide much needed photos. When the bloggers had a sit down with the owners, I was like able to like catch up with them a bit late because I came from duty and a lot of shenanigans happened but I was able to try and eat what they have to offer. I ended up not able to picture how it looks before being chowed down.  So maybe my honest words would be enough to make this review. And I lost all my files in my memory card too :(( Relieved I was able to save some photos.

Interior wise, very cozy and a mixture of different elements brought up together and it looks well put. They have function rooms to accommodate as well. Many decors from around the globe, that’s why frazzled cook is all about international cuisines made for the Filipino Palette. There are a lot from their menu to choose from and they have also a good selection of wines which I noticed. Nice to pair a glass of wine with their meat entrees. The menu is affordable to the Pinoy Foodie and you can bring friends and family to bond over with good food. -Not noisy and not crowded. On weekends they are open from 11 AM TO 1 AM and on weekdays 11 AM To 11 PM. https://www.zomato.com/manila/the-frazzled-cook-tomas-morato-quezon-city

Paella Negra

Pancake Ala Mode

Bestseller is their Paella Negra, it is topped with your favorite seafood and veggies- full of flavor in one dish. I tried their kebabs kinda tweaked it to somehow savor yet a little sweet (as I could remember – very Pinoy) and Salad served with lots of lettuce (which I notice which pinoys love to emphasize when it comes to their salad and a subtle dressing to be drenched with). I wasn’t able to try their pizza, but the bloogers said it really tasted good that’s why I ended up not able to try it because I came late and all was gone so It must be really that good. Well they also have a variety of desserts, they let us try the Pancake Ala Mode topped with pinoy vanilla ice cream- who says you can’t have breakfast for dessert. I still look forward to going back and bring my friends (I am all about food and endless chika).

Yellow Cab Pizza: Get straight to the Good Stuff!

Who doesn’t love pizza? Stuffed crust, thin and thick all shapes and forms no doubt who doesn’t love pizza. Yellow cab has already established a name to the Filipino go to place to eat quality served pizza. I got the chance to actually step in the actual kitchen and personally make my own new York style  pizza and know the qualities of making a delicious and sumptuous crust heaven made pizza straight from the oven of Yellow Cab. I was invited to the re-opening of Yellow Cab Mega Mall branch, located at Building A Second Floor. (Coming from the main back of Mega Mall, take the escalator going up as you turn to your Right, at the left side – spot on) Hope my directions could help because as a blogger, I feel obligated to actually lessen your ease to ask Manong guard haha.

pizza4pizza6

Entering the kitchen of Yellow Cab made me realize the dynamics of creating a masterpiece also has science, art, math and ofcourse culinary. You just don’t dump toppings here and there! The thing that I could recall from my experience making “New York’s Finest”, every ingredient has a specific weight/ amount (Sorry, I forgot to take note of it), I learned that when you spread Parmesan cheese, don’t pour a mouthful, I am so guilty sprinkling tons of parmesan cheese on pasta, it has to be spread in minimally. As you grasped the parmesan, have your hand  like a crab’s pincer , spread evenly at the entire crust but don’t overdue it- it would make the pizza very salty. Then when you place the toppings, there is an art and science to it, those near the end part should be place at the edge since the pizza gets flattened and expands in the oven.

I deserve a pat on the back, not bad for my first time. My friends said what a made was “masarap naman and flavorful” 🙂

Yellow cab as a pioneer pizza company provides fine and fresh ingredients, I would personally recommend the New York style pizza, not jut its loaded with cheese and generous topping, it has that savory palette. Something different from the usual classic for you to try when you visit.

Everytime I go to Baguio, the family orders the classic Pepperoni from Yellow cab and my bestfriend let me tried the “Darla”, you have to wrapped the leafy veggie(forgot what you call it), into a roll and you eat it. I heard only Yellow cab does this. So from the ordinary pizza place, yellow cab has a very interesting menus and innovations- , very New York and kinda Pinoy.

Letting the Pinoys have a taste of New York, based from the company’s mission:  to share a slice of New York to the Filipino people.Hoping to visit New York anytime soon to have that experience of what it is like (Add that to my bucketlist). As said on their website what makes Yellow Cab different, which I agree- New York-style pizza is crisp and slightly charred in the bottom, dense and chewy in the middle, and slightly gooey on top. And that’s just the crust. Top it off with a generous serving of the freshest, highest-quality ingredients, and you get—simply put—great New York-style pizza.-Yellow Cab

Love month at Mandala Park Weekend Market

On its 5th leg, Mandala Park has been making a buzz on social media, spread by word of mouth and been highly anticipated every month by foodies. Mandaluyong has bloomed to be the center of lifestyle and wellness in the metro. In celebration to that Mandaluyong tends to promote all greens and healthy living as well and also giving back to the community.

mp5

At the heart of Mandaluyong city lies the seat of Litton Legacy, the former site of the company’s textile plant now called Liberty Center. Today Litton is recalibrating its core and is relaunching Liberty Center as a new intergrated mixed use developement called MANDALA PARK. (Mandala is a symbol of balance and focus).

The first time I attended Mandala Park Weekend Market last month, I really had a great time over sumptuous food and rad jazz music with my favorite people in the world (my friends). Every Mandala Park Weekend Market always have different themes. This love month is about love for local.

mp12

mp13

February 20, Saturday, Mandala Park once again transforms its green, open spaces into a venue for their well curated merchants to showcase locally sourced and crafted produce and provide a platform for holistic wellness in the Middle of Metro Manila hustle and bustle. In collaboration with the Philippine Culinary Heritage to help spread the “love for local” and give the spotlight to merchants who inspire us to love our own Pinoy heritage. Before the event there was a yoga class with Flow Retreats- promoting wellness and holistic state.

Again the line up of stalls this month were a lot in number compared to the last time, there were familiar and new faces. My favorite gingerale by Standford and Shaw Brewing still there, Scout’s Honor’s  craft cookie milkshakes, Le Petite Souffle and Ribs Manila were there. Other familiar merchants – Asiong’s Carinderia, Jonas Manila known for their “pares”, Bayani Brew, Craftpoint brewing company Out of the box bulletproof coffee, an Fog city creamery (ice cream!), Wrapped Shawarma and YAKANG YAKA Bater (handmade and local products) – BLOGPOST link at  http://www.krishgeek.com/?p=1268

mp15

This time I’ve tried PuNta dishes, they were also there the last time. I love their burger meal, topped with egg on the meat patty and their flavorful savory and sweet fries to match with the burger for around PHP 200+.

puNeta

New faces such as Atsui Apparel (minimalist japanese fashion), Explorer Wax Co. (homemade scented candles), Local household names Edgy Veggy and Pok’e Boy. Filipno Comfort food by Homemade Treasure’s Ensaymada. We have international bites from Huat Pot (Taiwanese-style hot pot) and Taco Vengo (Mexican food).

mp7

Last time the music was about rad and loud jazz stylings, this time is the cool and up beat acoustic night – very pinoy chill vibe playing to top chart hits. Philippine Popular Music Festival alumna, Keiko Necesario serenaded the crowd with her original compositions and covers.

So I do suggest to still keep posted with MANDALA PARK WEEKEND MARKET happenings and bring your friends and family too! Follow their Instagram page @mandalaparkph and like their FB page on  facebook for updates.

It was my first time to be attending Mandala Park Weekend Market, I’ve heard about it before and I am glad to be attending the 4th installment –compare to the previous events, this was like the most jam-packed and it was a blockbuster. At times like this, it’s better to bond over a day filled with sumptuous food with good friends by your side.

Luckily my good pals, Ian and Vince know where the place is – glad to have my Mandaluyong boys to join me (They don’t claim it, but Mandaluyong/Shaw area is their turf.). And ofcourse my blogger bestie Charlene, was there and met a new friend , Alex. The event was at 312 Shaw Blvd. Brgy. Pleasant Hills Mandaluyong City (From S&R – you have to walk  a bit like what we did, mostly near Puregold) , January 16, 2016 on a Saturday.

When we got there it was hard to pin point and choose because everything looks delish SRLSLY (Walang diet diet haha).

We’ve asked around for recommendations and YES, the RIBS by RIBS MANILA by far was the bomb! All the while we thought it would take a long time to prep so that’s the first thing we purchased but it was just a few minutes and it was so yummy!. We got the P450 worth good for 2-3 persons and the next one cost around P800 plus. It was very “SULIT”!

Then I heard about the Ginger Ale (I LOVE GINGERALE <3- it’s for my golden voice, kidding), by Stanford and Shaw for P200 you get a whole bottle, good for sharing and P100 for a cup. Best served chilled and should always be refrigerated, as printed on the label.

Cha loves green tea and we both love desserts, and yes we’ve ordered from Scouts Honor, craft cookie matcha milkshake topped with their signature cookies, I love S’mores and Cha got ofcourse a matcha cookie. For about P200+, If you want to try more of Scouts Honors treats and drinks visit them at Hole in the wall at Century Mall, also Le petit soufflé.

My boys and I craved for rice meals as our main,  for the boys it’s all about “GAINZ”. So I got Longganisa with rice meal at D’Famous Imus Longganisa– I suggest you get eat it while its still hot, I had mine waited for too long but it was masarap – (3 pcs of longganisa and a huge serving of rice, for P100). Ian got Pares with rice from Jonas Manila, for P195 and Vince got a grilled chicken platter from Gostoso PirPiri, For P200.

We’ve seen stalls with unique names such as Puñta , Babci Kuchnia  and Mister Delicious. Familiar to our  taste buds and palette the Wrapped Shawarma. Healthy drinks from Pure Nectar, we wondered what Bullet proof coffee was, Beers & drinks from  Pedro Brew crafters and Bayani Brew. From the other side of the world, Madly British. Then there were other stalls, Trigo PH, Commisaire, Fog city, Asiong’s carinderia café and Good Food Community. Yakang Yaka Barter– sells handmade wallets, bags, and shoes. Perfect Mushroom, mushroom goods by the known mushroom king, Coach Marco, it was nice seeing him again, the last time I saw him was at the Jamba Juice tournament which I attended last year.

Completing the well-rounded and chill atmosphere of Mandala Park is a feature performance by one-man band Mikki Gozon, AKA Hoochie Coochie, as he delights visitors with his distinct acoustic blues sound.

I got to experience Tarot reading, by Mysterium Philippines. From a deck of cards, you choose 15 cards. The guy named Martin, read he could sense a very anxious vibe with me and a lot of things are going on in my life- TRUE. I’ll be sharing with you some things he pointed out correctly. He laid down the cards into different sections, he said the only thing I lack in my life is TIME. I’m sufficient in every life aspect, in love life well I am still the Master of my faith (Love life this year is okay – Hi MOM! ), its just that I don’t have time. He said why not try Medicine, – I did not mention to him anything about my life and I am still exploring especially when It comes to my career path. I admitted to him my selfish reason and he said its okay but he said whatever you plan to do in life, You can balance it. His words were “Kaya mo naman!.”. From  2016-2017 I might still be figuring out life and still be chilling. One thing he pointed, he showed me a card- all pitch black and a splash of color only on a somehow candle lit fire, he said when it comes to friendships, I am the one who brightens up and always have a solution for everybody.

A Fact to share, Mandala Park weekend market is Litton & Co.’s way of giving back to the community by handing them a venue for bringing people together in celebration of the new year and the affirmation of the harmony that’s ahead for everyone. With amazing finds, relaxing music, and hearty homegrown food, the Mandala Park weekend market continues to inspire people to bask in the warmth of holistic health, wealth, and abundance.

So I do suggest to be updated with the next MANDALA PARK WEEKEND MARKET event and bring your friends and family with 🙂 Instagram @mandalaparkph and like their FB page on  facebook for updates.

A day of ultimate food tasting experience “Foodgasm invades Maginhawa” #Foodgasm2015. I was really honored and flattered to be chosen as one of the blogger-judges of the event.  Well Nov 17, 2015 was the week Lando decided to invade the area of responsibility.Judging that day was a definite challenge, I wasn’t able to use my DSLR, the fear of getting my cam to get soaked under the rain so I used my iphone instead. Well I was able to get a few shots and some were not of good quality. Imagine me, foodtasting under the pouring rain (well it drizzled most of the time) and scoring/judging the same time (hassle but challenge accepted). Kudos, also to my fellow bloggers for this “buwis-health” moment, for the giving justice to food. Im just glad I have my pals, Jacky and Jovi with me to assist me.

with Jovi and Jacky!

The best part is the eating part! Yes. Before anything else, I really aimed before the event to reach my fitness target goal of 79 kgs, and luckily I did. Deep down inside, I know the event would be my ultimate cheat day. I would be tasting 40 different food stalls (Set A and Set B). To be fair I would not be revealing my faves, because as a judge I have to be fair. Actually I had a hard time on deciding which – would it be the savouries or the sweets (I’m guilty of having a sweet tooth).

Not bad for P200 (pre-selling) / P250 (door price) to purchase tickets, I was able to ask some people who I met along the way and said it was “sulit”. For just one time payment, you get to taste a lot of foodstalls. There was also a bazaar, eating contest, programs & festivities prepared and I heard the concert was a hit, based on the posts I saw on instagram and twitter. The were also other concessionaires who rented a space, The main participants of the events were not charged for their tents. A back story of how they were able to gather participants – some of them registered and others were invited via emails and they did door-to-door. The proceeds of the event will be collected and used to support their college, high school scholars and partnered communities.

I congratulate UP Economics Society along with the sponsors and partnered organizations for being able to pull off the event even though it rained and there was a delay in following the allotted time frame. Foodgasm is an outlet to promote new up-and-coming food businesses in hand with the bloggers and social media partners in promoting the event.  Congrats also to the winners!
