#FreewayXBenCab: About the Event

The event was held on June 9, 2015 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in Pasay City as part of BenCab’s celebration for his 50^th Anniversary Retrospective. It was a splendid night of art, fashion and a grand presentation of Filipino talent as the event was attended by several prominent figures from both ends such as fashion bloggers, art enthusiasts, critics, media, BenCab’s family and the main celebrant himself.

The event night opened with cocktails and a Pop-Up Shop Preview at CCP’s Main Lobby showcasing Freeway x BenCab National Artist Collectors’ Series. As guests viewed they collection on display, they were treated to pass around hors d’oeuvre. BenCab and devoted partner Annie Sarthou were there to chat and welcome everyone.

The event was lively hosted by Tessa Prieto Valdes and Tim Yap, both huge BenCab fans.

As the lights dimmed, the guests were treated to a dramatic fashion show by Freeway, where the 50-piece vibrant collection featured the many variations of BenCab’s popular subject “Sabel”. From paintings to fabric, it was definitely grand to witness as BenCab’s beautiful works were translated into sublimation graphic tees, work shirts, tailored dresses, casual tops, weekend wear, and many other accessories. The fashion show was made possible by Freeway’s event sponsor, the online leader ZALORA who helped produce the show.

In line with the artistic and nationalistic theme, the winners of the recently held Art Bag Design Contest were also presented at the event. BenCab awarded them for their winning designs, “Taong Putik Festival” by Merry Joyce Bautista and “Ating Pilipinas” by Mark Dizon, are now available in Freeway Stores nationwide.

After main events at the CCP Lobby, the guests were invited to the opening of “BenCab in Multiples: A Print Retrospective at the Bulwagang Juan Luna (Main Gallery) at the 3^rd floor of CCP. Guests marveled at the huge collection of BenCab’s print from CCP’s collection, a few private collectors and his own personal collection.

Indeed, it was a night to remember as guests went home that night filled with more appreciation and awe for fashion, art and culture. Benedicto Cabrera Biography

Benedicto Cabrera, more popularly known as BenCab is one of the most respected visual artists in the Philippines. His art has portrayed socio-political issues and various aspects of Filipino identity, earning acclaim for expressing universal human themes. Hailed as a master of contemporary Philippine art, he is also one of our few remaining living treasured National Artists.

Born in 1942 in Manila, Philippines, BenCab is the youngest of nine children born to Democrito Cabrera and Isabel Reyes of Pampanga. During childhood, he first discovered his interest in arts through his elder Brother Salvador who was already an established artist at that time. He pursued his love for the arts and went on to study at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, where he explored different art visual forms – photography, draftsmanship and printmaking.

Spending 13 years in London, BenCab shares with many of his countrymen the experience of longing for home. The physical distance caused him to become more keenly aware of his roots and the realities of life in the Philippines. He returned in 1985 to permanently settle in Baguio City. The BenCab Museum (www.bencabmuseum.org) was established in Baguio in 2009, to house the artist’s personal collection of tribal art from the Cordillera highlands and contemporary Philippine art. In the same year, BenCab was conferred a doctorate in the Humanities,honoris causa, by the University of the Philippines. BenCab was awarded National Artist of the Philippines for Visual Arts (Painting) in 2006.

His paintings and works have been the subject of three books, Ben Cabrera: Etchings (1970-1980) by Cid Reyes; Bencab’s Rock Sessions by Eric Caruncho; and BENCAB by Alfred Yuson and Cid Reyes.

I couldn’t imagine, the number of Filipinos who are into “cosplay” or “anime”. Well you’ve seen them a lot actually (They are everywhere – most of the time). Well I’m not exactly a fan but then I feel that Japanese culture is very rich and colorful.

Animax Carnival Philippines 2015, is the most awaited event for all cosplay and anime lovers. All of my friends who are into this thing are stoked to participate. For an affordable ticket price, you get to enjoy an all-day Animax fun filled activities. Inclusive of the ticket you get to play Japanese games or activities(Kendama, Daruma Otoshi, Wanage and Shateki) , then you can gain and earned prizes. There were also booths and stalls that sold anime and japanese merchandise. And also not to forget to mention the sponsors of the event who had prepared fun and entertaining activities as well.

My sisters were mostly excited to attend because they find anime interesting, since they are on vacation, I would like them to see how ate does her thing as a blogger. They adored Animax’ mascot “Oo-kun”, a cute blue huggable creature, we couldn’t figure it out what kind of animal is it. Oh well, he is damn right cute. Our favorite is the oo-kun merchandise area.

Filipino Fans indulged in Japanese Culture at Animax Carnival 2015

Treated to two days (May 30-31, 2015) of fun-filled anime-themed activities, Anime Filipino Fans flocked in Animax Carnival Philippines 2015 to celebrate Japanese tradition and J-Pop.

Hosted by renowed cosplayer Rhianna Floresca and Actor Eri Neeman, the event kicked off staging various Animax Stage Games brought by event sponsors Yoshinoya, Brother and Royal Thru Orange.

Fans were given the chance to watch Animax hit anime Failry Tail as it has a special screening of its episode 1 and 2 and Phoenix Priestess. Attendees were also lucky as Hunter X Hunter: Phantom Rouge had a special screening as well.

Meanwhile, Oo-ukun performed on stage and lucky fans had the chance to have photo opportunity with him in Oo-kun merchandise booth.

Kids and Kids at heart enjoyed the world of anime and the Japanese culture through various games and activities.

Fans were really game playing Shateki, Wanage,Kendama, Daruma Otoshi and many traditional japanese games.

Attendees were also lucky preview all of the anime posters and character artworks that have been featured on Animax. They experienced iconic Japan by learning how to write their names in Japanese and folding Origami for display. Purchasable Japanese fashion pieces and Japanese food were also exhibited from a variety of designer booths and food stalls. Furthermore, were able to immerse themselves in products and gaming activities sponsored by Sony.

Some event goers were fortunate to bring home various merchandise and premiums from Animax such as drawstring bags, sticky notes, folders, fans and much more.

Animax, Asia’s first channel specializing in Japanese animation made the Carnival bigger than before .

Anime lovers outshone each other in Animax Cosplay Competition, Solo and group categories.

Cosplayers once again showcased their costume-making talents and emulation of their favorite anime characters with a range of realistic costumes and gravity-defying anime hairstyles that thrilled visitors.

Mary Meneses gave justice to Ezra Scarlet of Fairy Tail as she took the grand prize in the solo category.

Meanwhile, the group Fairy Tail Berserkers won the coplay group category.

The contest was judged by Alodia Gosiengfiao, Filipino Actress Glaiza de Castro and Jia Hwa Chua, Senior Marketing Manager of Animax Singapore.

The winners received cash, exciting prizes and goodie bags, with attractive prizes worth over Php10, 000.

UP Circle of Administrators (UP Circa) , a duly recognized socio-academic organization established in 1992 in the National College of Public Administration and Governance in UP Diliman, brings to you the most awaited and highly anticipated screening of Pitch Perfect 2 which was held on May 13 at the SM North The Block Cinema 2. The screening is a fund-raising event or an income generating project for the organization.

Early before 7pm people were already in line at the event, stoked for the movie. Perks of falling in line early, you get a free Krispy Kreme glazed donut, only to be given to the first 100 people. KK (Krispy Kreme) also handed these cute paper hats with the official KK logo. When you purchase a ticket, it is inclusive of snacks and drink from the sponsors handed in paper goodie bags.

The cinema was jam-packed, before the screening UP Circa held games and ice breakers with amazing prizes in store. The first game, you have to guess how many XO candies are in a plastic sealed bag. Then second game, is like ,who sang it way better to the song of “When Im Gone (Cup Song) by Anna Kendrick” with the use of the Krispy Kreme cup. The winner was decided who has the loudest applause. The third game, a group of 6 friends should participate and give movie titles to a corresponding letter of a given word. The hosts and other members of the organization were able to pull it off and handed out prizes coming from their major sponsors.

I don’t want to give out everything and be a spoiler about the movie, all I can say, If you loved the first movie, you might go LSS for the second, especially the last song. The movie’s gist focuses on the Bella’s Senior year at Barden University and then an unfortunate event happened during a production number at Kennedy Center. The only way for the Bellas to gain the respect of all again is to win the world championship. It is not gonna be an easy road for the Bellas, rivalry with another acapella group from Germany called the DAS SOUND MACHINE and journey for the Bellas to rediscover their sound again.

The Barden Bellas slayed it again with their up to beat covers and tracks joined by a new Bella sister EMILY JUNK, a Barden Bella legacy. Definitely the movie was way funnier than the first and had bigger production numbers .If you expect more of “FAT AMY”, Definitely yes, prepare yourselves (HAHA) not only her, also the other funny Barden Bella characters and Charming treble makers.
